The Industry is in a crisis state. Now is the time to research all the related present conditions to lead us to supreme equine health and the oversight of better racing standards to preserve the integrity of the sport. The Industry professionals themselves on every level should serve as a guide to be taken into account when these regulations are changed and re-structured. The collective knowledge accumulated over the years is priceless. Eight Belles Legacy would like to establish the creation of a database full of insider expert opinion to serve as that guide for the Industry to make the difference and have the chance to review itself first through this resource.
The incident spotlights the fragility of modern Thoroughbred racing. We see a gap between the physical characteristics and those needed to lead a long healthy life. There are so many questions that have come to the forefront. Equine experts say the spotlight calls for answers concerning equipment, breeding practices, veterinary care, medications, training methods, track surfaces, and bloodlines to enhance Thoroughbred durability and excel to meet modern improvable methods.
